Philippine Airlines warns on “phishing site” giving away plane tickets

Philippine Airlines warned the public on a fake ad circulating online supposedly offering travellers a chance to win plane tickets.
On its official Facebook page, PAL said that accessing the site phish personal data putting people at risk of cyber-attacks.
“Please be advised that a fake advertisement is circulating online luring netizens to reply to several questions in exchange for a chance to win plane tickets.
The fake ad bears a PAL logo with the phrase “Home in the Sky”.
We urge everyone NOT TO open the site as doing so will compromise your personal data.
Our Information Systems Department has classified it as a phishing site designed to capture personal information.
Please note that the official PAL logo carries the tagline “Heart of the Filipino” and that all official advertisements of the airline are posted at www.philippineairlines.com and the PAL Facebook Page.
We warn individuals behind this scheme to desist from carrying out this illegal act. We are in coordination with authorities to address this matter.”
PAL said it is coordinating with authorities regarding the incident, and warned those behind it “to desist from carrying out this illegal act”.
It reiterated that all official advertisements of the company are posted on its official website, and Facebook page.
Meanwhile, PAL has an ongoing promotion that offers base fare as low as USD 20.
Banks and government agencies are usual targets of scams and phishing attacks. They often release warnings and reminders to the public against suspicious sites.
