Bonza’s latest route confirms the low-cost carrier’s commitment to Queensland, and it is the 13th route from the Gold Coast base, with ten routes not covered by any other airline.
It’s time to discover Australia’s hidden jewels, as Bonza opened for sale its newest route from the Gold Coast to Mount Isa yesterday, with flights beginning at $119 per person (one way). Mount Isa is Bonza’s 19th destination on its current network, demonstrating its continuous commitment to regional Queensland.
Bonza CEO Tim Jordan, who was in Mount Isa yesterday, said the new route would provide additional holiday options, improve domestic tourism opportunities in both areas and enable more Isa-based FIFO workers to connect with loved ones or enjoy a well-deserved break with low-cost fares.
“Affordable air travel has arrived in Mount Isa, and we are thrilled to announce this new service connecting the Gold Coast and Mount Isa.” At Bonza, we believe in connecting more Australians to their backyard than ever before, and this new route will bring more tourists to Mount Isa from the Gold Coast and Northern New South Wales area while also providing Mount Isa locals with the option to go to the Goldie without spending a fortune.”
Jordan credited the Bonza collaboration with Queensland Airports Limited (QAL), which owns and manages airports at three Bonza destinations – the Gold Coast, Townsville, and now Mount Isa – for obtaining the additional route.
“Connecting communities across Australia would not be possible without the help of our airport partners, so we are grateful for QAL’s support in enabling us to deliver low-cost fares for the many, not the few,” Jordan added.
In August, Bonza announced the opening of its Gold Coast base, the low-cost carrier’s third after the Sunshine Coast and Melbourne, with flights initially to 11 existing destinations: Albury, Bundaberg, Cairns, Gladstone, Mackay, Melbourne Avalon, Melbourne Tullamarine, Mildura, Rockhampton, Townsville, and the Whitsunday Coast.
Amelia Evans, Chief Executive Officer of Queensland Airports Limited, said the new service significantly improved connectivity across regional Queensland.
“The start of this direct service between the Gold Coast and Mount Isa is a testament to our team’s ongoing efforts and Bonza’s commitment to improving regional connectivity,” Ms Evans said.
“This announcement represents not only a significant milestone for our group of airports but also an important connection for the Mount Isa community and our State.”
A wet-lease deal with “sister” Canadian airline Flair will support the Gold Coast base, with Flair aircraft and staff flying Bonza-branded flights in the Australian summer. At the same time, Bonza will reciprocate by sending planes and people to Canada during the North American high season.
