Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre (MITEC) hosted Malaysia’s largest consumer travel fair. The 52nd Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) was held from the 17th – 19th March 2023 with over 180,000 visitors and generated slightly more than RM 300 million total sales turnover, with domestic sales alone accounting for RM 34 million.
MATTA fair is the largest since its establishment and marks the first relaunch of the event after the post-COVID-19 transition period. It has expanded to MITEC after years of hosting at World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTC). According to MATTA President Datuk Tan Kak Liang, “The 52nd edition has surpassed previous record in terms of capacity, visitor turnout, and sales recorded compared to the last MATTA Fair of over 43,000 visitors and featured 536 booths, that was held in September 2022”.
The Chief Executive Officer of MITEC, Mala Dorasamy said “We thank MATTA Fair organisers for their commitment and efforts in having hosted the largest travel fair in Malaysia at MITEC. We are proud to have played a significant role in driving tourism and contributing to the economy. We also acknowledge the major traffic congestion that occurred during the fair. We have had preliminary meetings with the event organisers, developers and relevant authorities to identify potential solutions including alternate parking areas, improved traffic control with designated lanes for public transportation in the upcoming September MATTA Fair”.
