Mauritius is offering luxury trip for two to mark reopening of borders on 1 October

The Indian Ocean nation of Mauritius is offering a luxury trip for two to the paradise island, in an exciting new global social media flash campaign to mark the reopening of its borders to international travellers from 1 October. The campaign will invite people from all over the world to like and comment on the ‘#TakeMeToMauritiusNow’ posts on Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) Facebook and Instagram pages.

Everyone who likes and comments on the posts will be in with a chance of winning the unique prize. The competition was launched on 27 September to coincide with World Tourism Day, and ends today. The lucky winner will be announced on 1 October, to coincide with Mauritius re-opening its borders to fully-vaccinated visitors from around the world.

The start of October also marks the beginning of Mauritius’ official holiday season as tourists book their winter sun breaks. Mauritius boasts luxury resort hotels, miles of pristine coastline, white sandy beaches and nature trails as well as world- leading historical, cultural and culinary attractions.

An early lockdown, strict quarantine measures and rapid vaccination rollout meant Mauritius remained almost Covid-free throughout the pandemic. More than 83 per cent of the adult population has been double-vaccinated – the highest rate across the whole of Africa – allowing tourists to feel safe and secure throughout their holidays.

Mauritius re-opening information

From 1 October, Mauritius is dropping quarantine requirements for all fully-vaccinated visitors. Arrivals will need a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours from the last point of embarkation and to have arranged COVID-19 insurance health cover (Mauritian citizens are exempt).

All travellers must fill out the health forms before or during the flight to Mauritius. These include the passenger locator form and the health self-declaration form. You will need to hand these completed forms to immigration and health officials on arrival at Mauritius airport.

For hotel stays a mandatory antigen test is required on arrival at your hotel (day 0) and again on day 5 of your stay. You can explore the island after you receive a negative result from your antigen test on day 0.

All other visitors staying at one of the island’s villas, bungalows, guest houses, B&Bs or private home will be required to take a PCR test on arrival at the airport (day 0). They will be required to do a self-administered antigen test on day 5 of their holiday. They can explore the island after they receive a negative result from your PCR test on day 0.

All unvaccinated arrivals will still have to undergo a 14-night quarantine in an approved hotel with regular testing before being able to freely explore the island.
