The all-inclusive concept is undergoing somewhat of a renaissance, with demand continuing to increase, and more and more resorts upping their game and evolving in the luxury space.
Marriott International unveiled their very first luxury all-inclusive resort at the start of the year – Sanctuary Cap Cana, a Luxury Collection Adult All-Inclusive Resort. The hotel opened its doors as the world’s first all-inclusive resort to join The Luxury Collection, a portfolio comprised of world-renowned hotels and resorts offering unique, authentic experiences that evoke lasting, treasured memories and with an intrinsic relation with the destinations where they are located. Following a temporary closure for renovations after the impact of Hurricane Maria, the resort saw enhancements to its decor as well as a brand new restaurant, beach bar, night club and hotel library.
Marriott also has plans to open several all-inclusive resorts within their renowned luxury-level brands such as The Luxury Collection, JW Marriott, W Hotels, and even The Ritz-Carlton in the next few years.
Additionally, the Elegant Hotels portfolio – seven stunning properties in Barbados, owned and operated by Marriott International – will undergo exciting renovations over the course of 2023 and beginning of 2024, ahead of their assimilation into several of Marriott’s famed luxury and premium brands:
All-inclusive properties include adults-only The House and Treasure Beach, wellness-focused Waves Hotel & Spa, and charming Tamarind which are set to join the Autograph Collection, a brand comprised with more than 290 distinctive independent hotels carefully crafted to leave a lasting imprint, exactly like nothing else. Family-friendly all-inclusives Turtle Beach and Crystal Cove will join the Tribute Portfolio, a brand that encompasses handpicked independent boutique hotels bound by their indie spirit and that struck a chord with those who seek out vibrant experiences and crave a connection with the community when travelling. (Colony Club, which boasts lagoon-style pools and an iconic Rum Vault, will join The Luxury Collection but will remain on a B&B plan.)
Looking to the Mexican Caribbean region, All-Inclusive by Marriott Bonvoy is also poised to further transform the all-inclusive segment with plans to open three exciting all-inclusive luxury resorts in Mexico with international developer, AB Living Group (AB Living). The three properties are Almare, a Luxury Collection All-Inclusive Resort, Isla Mujeres opening in 2024; JW Marriott All-Inclusive Costa Mujeres (new build) opening in 2025; and W All-Inclusive Costa Mujeres (new build) opening in 2025. The luxury branded all-inclusive properties aim to further elevate the segment with sophisticated design, curated programming, and exceptional culinary experiences tailored to the unique characteristics embodied by each brand.
All-Inclusive by Marriott Bonvoy expanded into South America in 2022 with its first all-inclusive property in Brazil: The Westin in Porto de Galinhas. Recently, the brand announced two additional new build properties to open in the country’s Maricá region. Located in the Rio de Janeiro area, this will be a new destination for the brand. The two hotels will be a JW Marriott All-Inclusive, which will expand the portfolio’s all-inclusive luxury offerings within South America, as well as a themed hotel inspired by the country’s most popular music festival, the Rock in Rio, joining as a part of the Autograph Collection.
Marriott also recently announced the re-opening of Cancun’s iconic Marriott Resort as an all-inclusive in early 2024. The award-winning hotel, now renamed Marriott Cancun, An All-Inclusive Resort, has been Marriott International’s legacy property in the Yucatan Peninsula for several decades, and will become the first Marriott branded all-inclusive resort in the world with core facilities make-over and an enhanced modern product offering new enriching experiences to guests.
