Macao Government Tourism Office joins Holiyaay Travel Fair in Surabaya
A delegation of Macao travel executives joined MGTO at its mega pavilion at the event
The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) participated at this year’s Holiyaay Travel Fair held in Surabaya, Indonesia from 29th August to 1st September.
The MGTO brought Macanese travel professionals to showcase the special autonomous region (SAR) as a preferred destination for Indonesian tourists thanks to its Tourism+ experiences catering to the different tastes of travellers.
The 50-square metre Macao Pavilion at the fair showcased the SAR’s vibrant entertainment and leisure scene through colourful displays, interactive games, and a multimedia showcase featuring Macao’s World Heritage sites, gastronomic attractions, and various events.
The pavilion also featured a tourist information counter and trade networking zone, where Macao industry delegates sought and pursued partnership opportunities with other regional and global exhibitors, as well as Indonesian travel professionals.
These onsite attractions also served as a venue for mutual updates regarding tourism resources, products, and industry trends in Macao and Indonesia.
At the same time, the MGTO collaborated with five local travel agencies to promote Macao’s distinctive tourism products in Indonesia well into mid-November to spark Indonesians’ interest in visiting the SAR during the festive season.
Macao’s third-largest source market
At present, Indonesia is Macao’s third-largest source market for tourism. This year, Indonesian visitor arrivals hit around 90 percent of the level last seen in 2019.
As of end-July 2024, Macao registered a total of 105,523 Indonesian visitor arrivals, marking an increase of around 45 percent compared with figures from the corresponding period in 2023.
Since the launch of a direct air service between Jakarta and Macao in November of last year, three direct flights now travel weekly between Macao and Indonesia. The number of direct flights will increase to five a week beginning this month.
