IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) has signed a management agreement with Omnam Group to open Kimpton Rotterdam, The Netherlands in 2022.
The Kimpton Rotterdam will be the second hotel for the brand in the Netherlands, following Kimpton De Witt in Amsterdam. The luxury hotel will be located in Rotterdam’s POST building, the city’s former main Post Office dating back to 1921, and part of a dynamic mixed-use project in the city centre. When opened, the hotel will offer 231 guest rooms created by ODA NY, a group of architects who will restore the historic building to its full potential.
Kimpton Rotterdam will be developed and opened with Omnam Group, a real estate group and active investor, with significant projects in the European hotel market. Omnam specialises in medium- to large-scale hotels, aparthotels, mixed-use developments and conversion opportunities, with destinations including Brussels, Belgium; Amsterdam, the Netherlands; and Rome, Italy.
“A 100% fit”
David Zisser, founder and CEO at Omnam Group, commented: “The magnificent POST building deserves a carefully customised approach to design and hospitality. The Kimpton brand and philosophy is, simply put, a 100% fit. We are convinced that POST will become an international icon where people from all over the world will come, stay and enjoy.”
Last year, IHG opened its first Kimpton hotel outside of the Americas and this was followed by the recent opening of Kimpton Fitzroy London, a flagship property for the brand located on London’s Russell Square. In addition, IHG also signed the brand in a number of key European cities, including Paris, Frankfurt and Barcelona.
“An ideal fit for our Kimpton brand”
Karin Sheppard, managing director, Europe, IHG, commented: “Rotterdam is the second largest city in The Netherlands, growing in popularity with both domestic and international tourists and attracting a bustling leisure scene. It is an ideal fit for our Kimpton brand, whose heartfelt, personalised service and bold design will resonate well with this vibrant city.
“We’ve seen in Amsterdam just how well our luxury boutique offering has been received in Europe, and this new signing only reinforces momentum for Kimpton’s international expansion.”
Founded in 1981 by Bill Kimpton, the luxury boutique brand was acquired by IHG in 2015 and currently operates 66 Kimpton hotels across the Americas and Europe. There are 25 hotels in the Kimpton pipeline, with destinations including Bangkok, Bali, Taipei, Tokyo and Shanghai.
