Jet Airways has formed a new partnership with Hong Kong Airlines aimed at enhancing connectivity between India and the Far East.
The new codeshare partnership will lead to new one-stop flight services connecting Indian passengers to destinations in Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and New Zealand.
Hong Kong Airlines will place its “HX” flight code on Jet’s flights from Mumbai and Delhi to Hong Kong. In turn, Jet will place its “9W” code on Hong Kong Airlines’ flights operating between Hong Kong and Okinawa, Tokyo, Bali, Hanoi, Bangkok and Auckland. Okinawa and Auckland are brand new destinations to Jet’s codeshare network.
This will enable passengers to book single-ticket travel from the two Indian cities to any of the codeshare destinations, with the baggage checked through to the final destination. And frequent flyers will be able to earn miles on the codeshare flights.
“As a network carrier, Jet Airways has always focused on meeting the rapidly rising travel needs of our guests for seamless connectivity and greater convenience,” said Jayaraj Shanmugam, Jet’s chief commercial officer. “Our strategic codeshare partnerships with leading airlines across the world allows us to meet that perfectly.
“Both business and leisure travel between India and the destinations covered by this arrangement has been growing at a remarkable CAGR of 12% over the last five years, on the back of sustained economic activity. We believe this partnership will further strengthen the choice available for our guests, especially to our first time codeshare destinations such as Okinawa in Japan and Auckland in New Zealand,” he added.
Li Dianchun, chief commercial officer of Hong Kong Airlines, commented that the codeshare would help it tap the “great potential [of] the India market”.
The codeshare flights opened for sale this week.
