Japan National Tourism Organisation uses NFTs to promote Expo 2025

The Japan National Tourism Organization is currently promoting Osaka Expo 2025 through a stunning line of non-fungible tokens that capture the essence of Japan through the age-old art of sumi-e (ink painting.)

Under its Japonism Journey initiative, JNTO issued 20 NFT variants of sumi-e pieces inspired by local landmarks in ten regions of the country as a way to draw in both local and foreign travellers

Aside from giving travellers a digital keepsake commemorating the Expo, the programme also seeks to mitigate overtourism by encouraging tourists to make their way to less-travelled regions of Japan.

Along with this programme, the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition will also do its part to encourage those attending the EXPO to visit the country’s diverse regions to experience the best in Japanese culture

Capturing the essence of a nation

The sumi-e pieces included in this unique collection feature such landmarks as the Blue Lake in Biei, Hokkaido; Tohoku’s Chusonji Temple, Chubu’s Mount Fuji, the Kusatsu Onsen in Kanto, Shikoku’s Naruto Straits, Kyushu’s Kumamoto Castle, and the Shurijo Castle in Okinawa.

The NFTs are available for free via the Expo 2025 Digital Wallet and through the official JNTO website.
