Middle East based hoteliers HMH (Hospitality Management Holdings) property, the Coral Beach Resort Sharjah, has revealed the successful launch of the ninth annual Pink Caravan Ride, the “pan-UAE initiative” created to raise awareness of breast cancer in the region.
The seven-day journey, which came to a close last Friday, featured more than 150 riders, supported by teams of medical and community volunteers, who set out from the Coral Beach property and made their way across the seven emirates and 100 miles to bring knowledge about breast cancer as well as the importance of regular screenings and early detection to help prevent and treat the disease.
Medical clinics ran from 10am to 6pm throughout the seven-day ride, which included 30 mobile medical clinics and seven fixed clinics (one in each emirate). The clinics offered free medical check-ups and screenings to all segments of the community for the duration of the campaign.
The last eight Pink Caravan Rides discovered 61 cancer cases through the free testing but in the first three days of this year’s campaign, there were zero positive results. The results for the final half of the campaign have yet to be released.
“A chance to show our support to the society… and community”
Haytham Abdul Aziz, cluster general manager of Coral Beach Resort Sharjah & Bahi Ajman Palace speaking about the launch: “We are honoured to be one of the first to host the ninth Pink Caravan Ride at our property- Coral Beach Resort.
“This initiative gives us a chance to show our support to the society in educating and raising awareness about early detection and breast cancer control across our society and community.”
