More than half of the hotel rooms currently under construction in Asia Pacific are located in China.
According to the latest regional pipeline report from STR, there are now 1,189 hotels comprising 271,915 rooms are being development across Asia Pacific. And 153,243 of these rooms, or 56% of the total, are located in China.
In total there are 592 hotels now under construction in China, which accounts for 50% of the regional pipeline.
Unsurprisingly, this gives China by far the largest hotel pipeline of any Asia Pacific country, with more than six times as many rooms as second place Indonesia (22,793 rooms in 123 hotels). India (20,750 rooms in 131 hotels) is third and Vietnam (10,273 rooms in 38 hotels) fourth.
Taking into account all projects in the regional pipeline, including those not yet under construction, there are now 2,760 hotels being planned across the Asia Pacific region, comprising 609,417 rooms. This represents a 3.8% increase, in terms of rooms, compared to this time last year.
