Ancient Stones & Treasures of Wiltshire – New 2025 7 day UK tour – Prices from £1,395pp
Brand new for 2025, Great Rail Journeys have announced this amazing new Ancient Stones & Treasures of Wiltshire tour. On the 7 day tour, discover the ancient stones and monuments of Wiltshire, which takes in the breadth of British history, from prehistoric Stonehenge and Avebury to the many treasures of Salisbury, which span the Bronze Age, Iron Age and Roman periods. This holiday also includes nostalgic trips on heritage railways in the rural landscapes of Somerset and Wiltshire, so expect to see breathtaking views and be surrounded by centuries of history. This tour is not to be missed, with beautiful places to visit, such as the 13th-century Magna Carta, on a private tour of Salisbury Cathedral and entering the inner circle of Stonehenge on an exclusive sunset visit!
Gary Crompton (GRJ UK Product Manager), who created this tour commented: ‘Wiltshire is my favourite county, and I wanted this tour to showcase beautiful places in the UK, you don’t have to travel far to visit. A standout part of this tour is the private Stonehenge experience, when the place is closed to the public, so our small group has the entire site to ourselves, just for us, with exclusive access to the inner circle of Stonehenge to see the sunset. At GRJ, we work hard to curate unique experiences for our guests that can’t be found elsewhere.
The new Wiltshire tour is available for five exclusive dates in 2025, across May – September 2025. This tour was created partly due to the popularity of the Wonderful Wiltshire Christmas tour, which was the quickest Christmas tour at Great Rail Journeys to sell out, so we expect there to be a huge interest in the 2025 tour. While the Christmas Wiltshire tour doesn’t have the private Stonehenge experience, this tour brings that enchanted Christmas magic, with a Christmas wreath making workshop inside a church built in 1860, visiting Longleat to see their magical festival of lights and a private carriage on the Avon Valley steam train with afternoon tea’.
