Ride-hailing giant Grab has launched a co-branded credit card in the Philippines in partnership with Citi.
Avid Grab users will largely benefit from this co-branded credit card as they could earn more Grab points per spend on the app and get 12 free Grab rides upon spending PHP 10,000 (USD 200) within 60 days of getting the card. Moreover, earn thrice more points from Citi on dining and entertainment purchases and online subscriptions.
Following its launch in the Philippines, the credit card will be launched in Thailand in late 2019.
This is not the first time that Grab and Citi paired to expand both businesses. In 2016, the two inked a partnership that allows passengers to pay for Grab rides using their points from Citi credit cards. Citi also invested in the ride-hailing firm back in November 2018 through its venture capital arm Citi Ventures.
Previously, Grab collaborated with Mastercard, allowing its users to pay for online and offline services using a prepaid card.
Recently, Grab Philippines faces a big challenge as it deactivates around 8,000 driver-partners that failed to get accreditation from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
According to Grab, the deactivation of a large number of active drivers would trigger longer booking periods and higher price surges due to fewer available rides.
