‘Flights to Slovenia’ searches soar by 159% as team makes the Euro 2024 knockouts
A new analysis of Google Trends search data has revealed that searches for ‘flights to Slovenia’ have soared 159%, which is more than two-and-a-half times higher than levels seen over the last five years globally, as the country’s national football team played against England in the Euro 2024 group stages.
The study conducted by QR Code Generator found that searches spiked by 159% compared to the worldwide search volume over the last five years—higher even than interest levels seen pre-COVID in 2019.
Holidaymakers from all over the world have been inspired by the nation’s football team to perhaps make Slovenia their summer destination of choice this year.
Notably, one of Slovenia’s most picturesque tourist hotspots, with an incredible 45.3 million views on TikTok and 381,000 Instagram posts tagging #LakeBled, has also seen a spike in interest.
The study revealed that on the night of the Slovenia v. England game, there was a 68% increase in UK searches for the Julian Alps’ ‘Lake Bled’ compared to last month.
Marc Porcar, CEO of QR Code Generator PRO S.L, commented on the increased interest: “The fact that the Slovenia football match has had such a significant impact on the interest of tourism in the country indicates the profound influence that international tournaments like the Euro 2024 can have on travel, tourism, and the economy of participating countries.
“The global platform of the tournament has shone a spotlight on countries throughout Europe which holidaymakers had perhaps not considered as holiday destinations before. However, this intrigue has perhaps resulted in potential travellers being impressed by the beauty they find, the taste of what nations have to offer which can be seen through a simple Google search and has enticed them to experience it for themselves.”
