Finnair to cancel 90+ flights on Friday

Finnair has confirmed that it will cancel more than 90 flights on Friday 17 March, due to strike action at Helsinki Airport.

The industrial action is due to take place between 3pm and 7pm, as part of a dispute over the labour agreements of airport workers.

While Finnair is not involved in the dispute, the strikes will directly impact its operations. Almost one third of the national carrier’s daily flights will be grounded on Friday, mainly on domestic and European routes.

“The cancellations unfortunately again disrupt the travel plans of thousands of Finnair customers. We sincerely apologise for the trouble and concern this is causing to our customers. We hope that the parties to the dispute will reach an agreement as soon as possible,” said Jaakko Schildt, Finnair’s chief operating officer.

In addition to the cancellations, Finnair will also change the departure times of certain flights, so that they can be operated outside the strike hours. As such, all passengers are advised to visit www.finnair.com/info to check the latest flight information.

Baggage handling delays are also expected at Helsinki Airport, and in-flight catering may be affected, although not on long-haul routes.
