‘Far More Pathways’ hopes to rope in hospitality talent
Far East Hospitality and Temasek Polytechnic collaborate to build a local talent pipeline for Singapore’s hospitality sector This partnership, called the Far More Pathways, is the first of its kind between a hospitality group and an Institute of Higher Learning in Singapore.
Arthur Kiong, chief executive officer, Far East Hospitality and Tan Siew Kim, director of Business School, Temasek Polytechnic signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) recently at Oasia Resort Sentosa to cement their partnership.
With this in place, the partners commit themselves to establishing: ● An integrated careers internship programme (ICIP)* – which is a three-phase pathway for talents to undergo internship opportunities and secure full-time employment in the hospitality sector, and ● A learning & development (L&D) support – which is a suite of Continuing Education and Training (CET) programmes to upskill the hospitality workforce.
Dubbed as the Far More Pathways, the initiative seeks to (1) address the perennial labour shortage issues in Singapore and in the hospitality sector by mutually leveraging Far East Hospitality and Temasek Polytechnic’s resources and capabilities to devise programmes aimed at talent attraction and retention in the sector – building a strong and stable Singapore talent core. Beyond that, (2) to connect knowledge and practice in relevant areas across Far East Hospitality’s business areas, while having Temasek Polytechnic to reaffirm the group’s reputation and competitiveness as a regional hospitality owner and operator. Far More Pathways will officially kickstart from April 2023.
“Far East Hospitality is committed to uplifting the hospitality industry in multiple ways,” said Arthur Kiong. “Far More Pathways is one of our commitments as we seek to build a sustainable local talent pipeline to meet the manpower needs of the hospitality industry and, at the same time, ensure a Singaporean core is ever present in complementing today’s diverse workforce as Singapore continues to welcome talents from all across the globe.” “Our collaboration with partners like TP on this intensive career internship programme will put us one step closer to that objective. It will help us grow a local pool of hotelier talents who will not only be equipped with future-ready mindset and skills, but also set on exciting career pathways, while being instilled with our standards of Singapore-inspired hospitality excellence.” Sharing his sentiments, Peter Lam added:
“Through our partnership with Far East Hospitality, we hope to nurture the next generation of hospitality talents for the industry. This internship programme will help our students be better prepared to tackle future challenges and provide them with valuable training and industry exposure. This real-world experience will also enhance the students’ chances of gaining employment when they enter the workforce.” Under the MOU, Far East Hospitality and Temasek Polytechnic’s partnership will also gradually expand into other potential collaboration areas such as sponsorship of education materials, prizes, and scholarships and co-development of research projects.
