Following today’s launch of Aeromexico’s London-Mexico City direct daily service, TDUK catches up with Nieves Rodríguez, the airline’s country manager UK & Ireland.
Tell us a bit about your role and how long have you held the position?
I joined Aeromexico 2.5 years ago after a long career with American Airlines. Aeromexico is a great company that has been increasing its brand awareness in the UK market thanks to the increased capacity but more important to its excellent team. I strongly believe it is thanks to them that Aeromexico is succeeding and we will have more good stuff to come!
How are you developing trade relationships and what sales channels will be your focus?
Like for any airline our direct channels are very important. However, we have always focused on our trade partners as we believe we need each other, and only through working together, we have been able to grow by 60% our capacity in the last two years.
The corporate segment has always been a priority for us and this is the reason why we have launched dedicated services to our Business Class customers, like our Premium Services (meet & greet) service at the airport, Complimentary Chauffeur Service and our Corporate Club Premier.
Why was the decision taken to provide a daily nonstop service between London and Mexico City?
The non stop flight started back in 2012. Since then we have been adding capacity thanks to the great results of the route driven by our excellent network, not only to Mexico, but especially to all Latin American countries.
What destinations and services are you particularly keen to push through the trade and why?
Though Mexico is our core business we are continuously expanding to other international destinations. We have excellent connections to the Caribbean (Havana, Dominican Republic) as well as to our network in Latin America where we see great potential and we are growing exponentially.
How do you work with the Mexico Tourism Board?
We have excellent relationships with the tourism board and we always find synergies to keep promoting Mexico.
What trends are you noticing right now? What’s selling and why?
There is no doubt the industry is slowing down and there is an aggressive competition in the market. However, as we are putting more capacity in the market , while focusing on the high end and business customers by implementing a quality proposition for them, we are seeing excellent revenue and share results.
