Emirates, the world’s largest international airline, announced a series of contracts totalling more than US$1.2 billion awarded to Safran. This includes a $1 billion* deal for the next generation Safran Seats for Emirates’ upcoming Airbus A350, Boeing 777X-9, and existing Boeing 777-300 aircraft.
The agreement covers Business, Premium Economy, and Economy class seats for Emirates’ Airbus A350 and Business, Premium Economy, and Economy Class seats on the Boeing 777X-9. The new seats will offer a host of enhancements that set a new standard for comfort, privacy and convenience, including generous space and a bolder roster of luxurious features, stylish interior finishes and next-level technology in every cabin class.
This is also a significant export order for a French company, and it is part of Emirates’ continuous investment in France and Europe.
“Safran is a key partner for Emirates, and we’re working closely to reimagine and elevate our future cabins with smart design and the latest technologies,” said Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airlines. These were important considerations in selecting the seat types that would be customised for Emirates. Today’s news is significant because it cements Emirates and Safran’s cooperation and promotes aircraft manufacturing and the entire value chain in France and throughout Europe.”
“Safran is very proud of our longstanding strategic alliance with Emirates,” Safran CEO Olivier Andriès said. “The continuation of our 30-year partnership underscores Safran’s commitment to innovative solutions for aircraft interiors, critical aircraft equipment, and services to ensure the best passenger experience possible.” Today’s agreements pave the way for Safran’s continuing expansion alongside our customer, a global market leader. We are looking forward to the future now more than ever.”
In addition to seats, Safran Cabin will supply Emirates’ A350 fleet with Galley shipsets that meet the airline’s high quality and design criteria. The galleys for Emirates’ A350 and B777-9 fleets will be outfitted with GEMini and the new high-end type NUVO galley inserts, with advanced features, efficiency, and technology.
Safran Landing Systems will equip the Emirates A350 fleet with high-performance wheels and carbon brakes. These brakes offer significant weight savings and a unique design that provides better cooling for shorter turnaround times (TAT) and increased fleet availability.
Emirates will get Safran Passenger Innovations’ RAVE AeroConnect Ka system, which provides connections across different providers and frequencies. This end-to-end solution will upend the status quo of in-flight connections by providing Emirates with unprecedented entertainment and provider selection freedom. Safran’s agnostic satcom connection solution will be installed on 50 Airbus A350, 60 Airbus A380, and 50 Boeing 777X-9 aircraft.
In addition to providing technology for Emirates’ new fleet, Safran is also working with the airline on its upgrade plan, including delivering new seats for the Boeing 777 and Airbus A380.
Agreements for Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul
According to Emirates, Safran Landing Systems will be the exclusive nose landing gear refurbishment service provider for the A380 fleet. Emirates will benefit from Safran Landing Systems’ extensive network, which includes sites in Singapore and France.
In addition, Emirates has inked a 10-year service deal with Safran Aerosystems to repair and maintain Boeing 777 safety and cabin system components. The Middle East plant of Safran Aerosystems is located near Al-Maktoum Airport in Dubai and will provide maintenance services that will improve Emirates’ operating efficiency.
