dnata teams up with ExxonMobil for renewable diesel use
The trial currently covers dnata operations at Singapore's Changi Airport
Air and travel services provider dnata and petrochemical firm ExxonMobil announced a joint trial for the use of renewable diesel at Changi Airport. This makes dnata the first ground handler at Changi Airport to use renewable diesel.
During the six-month trial, dnata’s generator sets and airside vehicle fleet will be fuelled with Esson Renewable Diesel R20 (R20).
If successful, ExxonMobil will expand the trial to include 200 airside vehicles and generator sets across dnata’s ground handling and cargo operations in Changi.
This fuel trial is partially funded by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) under its Aviation Sustainability Programme.
Charles Galloway, dnata regional CEO for airport operations in the Asia Pacific said: “We are delighted to partner with ExxonMobil for this significant trial. dnata remains at the forefront of ground handling services in Singapore, with ongoing investments in cleaner-energy equipment and infrastructure. We look forward to working with ExxonMobil and CAAS to further reduce our carbon footprint throughout this trial, and beyond.”
Renewable and eco-friendly
R20 is a high quality fuel with around 15.4 percent less lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions compared to standard diesel. Also, its formulation uses up to 20 percent renewable materials.
According to ExxonMobil fuels sales director for the Asia Pacific Mabel Leung: “[Our] renewable diesel is an engine-ready GHG emission-reduction solution that leverages our existing supply capabilities to customers. The partnership [with dnata] reflects our ability to offer lower-GHG emission solutions for the transportation sector, in Singapore and the Asia-Pacific region.”
