Cross-border tourism train Star Express goes on its initial trip to Vientiane
This initial voyage ran from Kunming in China’s Yunnan province and made its way to Laos’ capital Vientiane
Star Express, a cross-border railway connecting China and Laos, made its initial run on 24th September.
This initial voyage ran from Kunming in China’s Yunnan province and made its way to Laos’ capital Vientiane. The train crossed the Tropic of Cancer and passed through the UNESCO World Heritage city of Luang Prabang as it made its way to its destination.
During the inaugural run that spanned three nights and four days, passengers enjoyed breathtaking landscapes, diverse cultures, and ethnic customs during their journey. This also enabled them to experience the natural charm of Xishuangbanna and stroll through the Buddhist land of Luang Prabang, all the while enjoying the rich cultural diversity along the route.
A great way to promote cultural exchange
Developed by CTG Asset, a subsidiary of the China Tourism Group, Star Express aims to help implement China’s Belt and Road Initiative in order to promote cultural and tourism exchanges between the two countries.
The train was designed and renovated by professional teams from China and overseas who took into account environmental protection and safety. As such, it features state of the art high-speed rail soundproofing technology and an integrated intelligent information system, complemented by a user-friendly smart operating system.
Entertainment facilities such as on-demand movies and interactive games are also available aboard to spice up travellers’ experiences.
