Clark International Airport is International Airport of the Year – Philippines at TDM Travel Trade Excellence Awards 2024 – Asia
The airport is the main gateway to Northern and Central Luzon, Philippines, connecting the region to the rest of the country and the world.
The Philippines’ Clark International Airport (CRK) has been named International Airport of the Year – Philippines at the TDM Travel Trade Excellence Awards 2024 – Asia. Amongst its many achievements, it was recognised for its successful initiatives to serve millions of travellers and further push economic development in the region.
Located inside the Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga, Philippines, CRK is operated by the Luzon International Premiere Airport Development (LIPAD) Corp, a private consortium established to manage the operations and maintenance of Clark International Airport. The consortium members each have vast experience in airport operations, air transportation, and property development. These are Filinvest Development Corporation, JG Summit Holdings, Inc., Changi Airports Philippines, and Philippine Airport Ground Support Solutions.
Under the Philippine government’s Build, Build, Build programme, introduced in 2017, the CRK passenger terminal expansion project became the country’s first hybrid public-private partnership. LIPAD introduced numerous initiatives to enhance its planning process and capitalise on the potential for growth at CRK.
One of the most important initiatives of LIPAD is to increase connectivity in CRK. With both international and domestic operations centralised in one passenger terminal, accessing the Philippines’ top attractions will require only a quick transfer within the same airport. For Filipinos travelling abroad, multiple services connecting to long-haul destinations will also be an advantage.
“Enhanced connectivity will make CRK more attractive to travellers, both domestic and international, and support its development as a major transit hub,” said Noel F. Manankil, President and CEO, LIPAD.
Another priority project that the airport has undertaken is the establishment of the Minimum Performance Specifications and Standards (MPSS), a set of objective and subjective parameters measured against passengers’ perceptions of the quality of the facilities, services, and operational processes at CRK. To ensure that CRK remains compliant with MPSS, LIPAD conducts a robust monthly data collection through standardised questionnaires and ratings created by third-party auditors, such as the Airports Council International (ACI) to maintain a credible and quality customer service experience for passengers, in addition to a monthly evaluation of passenger feedback.
LIPAD is a proud member of ACI, which represents the collective interests of over 2,110 airports in 169 countries to promote excellence in aviation. ACI also partners with global organisations, governments, airports, and industry stakeholders to create policies, initiatives, and standards that support airport priorities and enhance the aviation sector.
