Coming in the wake of the tragic bombings in Christchurch on 15 March, New Zealand’s national carrier Air New Zealand and ChristchurchNZ have launched a new campaign inspiring tourists to visit Christchurch.
‘Christchurch. Explore something new’, was unveiled, along with the support of the city’s economic development and profile agency ChristchurchNZ, after the airline and local travel agencies signed a Memorandum of Understanding in September 2018 committing to exploring joint marketing activity, enhanced freight and passenger capacity, and signature events.
Air New Zealand’s general manager for market development and retail sales, Annabelle Fowler, said: “Christchurch is building new experiences at a phenomenal rate. New bars, restaurants and artworks are going up quicker than anywhere else in New Zealand. And of course, we can’t forget the classic Christchurch either – even some of the Christchurch classics are new for some Kiwis.
Fowler went on to add: “Christchurch residents are reshaping the city in an exciting way and we want to encourage New Zealanders to check it out. As well as being a fantastic destination in its own right, the city is also an important hub for exploring the Canterbury region.”
The multi-strand campaign will put a spotlight on the new experiences Christchurch has on offer and will include an online video (above) showcasing the beauty of Christchurch as well as its new tourist offerings.
“Cool work that’s good for Christchurch and great for New Zealand”
Furthermore an online game will also be launched next week where participants can win a trip for four to Christchurch from anywhere in New Zealand and daily prizes of 100 Airpoints Dollars. The city also features in the airline’s latest ‘Where to Next?’ campaign which includes a TV advertisement highlighting the best of the region.
ChristchurchNZ chief executive officer, Joanna Norris, said: “Our city has changed dramatically in the past few years and it has been brilliant working with Air New Zealand to get Kiwis here to explore all the wonderful new bits we have been busy building. Christchurch city is no longer New Zealand’s best kept secret. This campaign is the result of a partnership we signed with Air New Zealand in September and the result is cool work that’s good for Christchurch and great for New Zealand.”
