China reports 872 million railway trips for summer 2024
The number of railway passengers for the season was up by 6.2 percent from last year
China’s state-owned railway operator reported a significant increase in those travelling via rail for summer 2024.
According to a report released by the China State Railway Group Company Ltd on 31st August, the country’s railway system handled around 872 million passenger trips for this summer as of 30 August.
According to a separate report released by China’s Ministry of Transport, a total of 37.99 billion inter-regional trips were made in China during the first seven months of the year, showing an increase of 6.6 percent from where it was in 2023.
This year’s summer figure is up by 6.2 percent from where it was in 2023. Indeed, the average daily number of railway passenger trips reached 14.29 million between 1 July and 30 August.
The demand for student travel during the summer vacation, general tourism, and holiday-specific family visits was strong, keeping railway passenger flow at a high level.
