Capella Hotel Group has revealed details of its first ever Thai property – a landmark ultra-luxury hotel located on the banks of the Chao Praya River in Bangkok.
Nicholas M. Clayton, CEO of Capella Hotel Group Asia, introduced the hotel to the media on Wednesday (8 March 2017), alongside Ben Taechaubol, CEO and director of Country Group Development, the Thai real estate company developing the new hotel.
Speaking to Travel Daily Media’s Darren Brodie at the event, Clayton said that the new hotel would bring a new level of luxury to the Thai capital’s accommodation sector.
“Our Bangkok property will showcase the rich heritage of its location while delivering the unique style and authentic experiences our discerning guests have come to expect,” Clayton told the media. “The prestigious riverfront location, within an integrated luxury residential and hotel development, is ideally positioned to attract luxury travellers from all parts of the world.”
Scheduled to open in summer 2018, Capella Bangkok will form part of the Chao Phraya Estate, a major mixed-use development that covers 5.7 hectares of riverfront land. The hotel will comprise 101 suites and villas with river views, plus two restaurants, a bar and spa. For the MICE market there will also be a riverfront ballroom and several other function rooms.
The hotel will stand alongside the Four Seasons Bangkok in the new development, and just downstream of several other existing high-end hotels, including the Shangri-La, Mandarin Oriental and Peninsula.
The Chao Phraya Estate is Country Group Development’s largest project to date, valued at THB32 billion (US$918 million).
“We specifically selected Capella Hotel Group for this project in order to elevate the standard of bespoke luxury available to guests in Bangkok,” said Taechaubol. “As one of the two international hospitality anchors within the development we could not have hoped for a more respected hotel partner.”
Capella currently only operates one Asian hotel, located in Singapore. But Clayton revealed that the Bangkok property would form part of a major expansion of the luxury brand in the region.
“We are delighted to announce Capella Bangkok as one of three distinctive new properties to be launched in Asia within the next 15 months. Capella Shanghai will open in late spring 2017, Capella Ubud [in Bali] follows in the autumn and Capella Bangkok will welcome guests in summer 2018,” he concluded.
