Moto GP, the world’s most celebrated motorcycle racing championships, is returning to Thailand this October following last year’s successful launch of PTT Thailand Grand Prix. The three-day extravaganza, held at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, will take place from 4-6 October 2019.
With just over a month to go, the province of Buriram, translated as ‘delightful city’ and just 400 km from Bangkok, is gearing up to host this year’s Moto GP event. This lesser known region is home to 60 ancient Khmer temples, such as Phanom Rung and Muang Tam, reminiscent of the Khmer temple complex of Angkor Wat as well as Khao Kradong Forest Park – Khao Kradong is a 265-meter high extinct volcano with a pool that is believed to be a crater at the top.
Making Buriram part of the Moto GP family has been instrumental in boosting the region’s economy and diversifying the country’s tourism industry. Last year saw the Buriram Circuit named the Best Grand Prix of the year. The event attracted over 220,000 visitors to the Buriram region from across the world, making it the largest audience amongst all 19 of the 2018 Moto GP events.
While Thailand is long heralded as the ultimate destination for UK holiday makers, the launch of the Thailand Grand Prix has given tourism in Thailand a brand-new look, moving the kingdom right to the top of travel wish lists for Moto GP fans across the world.
Thailand will go on to host L’Etape Thailand by Tour de France in October 2019, the Laguna Phuket Triathlon in November 2019 and the Amazing Thailand Marathon in Bangkok in early 2020.
