Monday evening, Bonza launched its first-ever flight between Melbourne (Tullamarine) and Mildura. The three times weekly service will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with fares starting from just $49 per person (one way).
The new route is expected to allow Victorians in both locations to connect with friends and family more often and a holiday within the State.
“If you live in Melbourne or Mildura and have been putting off seeing the rellies or having a holiday at home, now is perfect timing to grab a low-cost flight. Whether you’re hiring a houseboat on the Murray River and exploring Mildura’s wineries or indulging in Melbourne’s galleries and cafes – it is now more affordable than before,” said Carly Povey, Bonza’s Chief Commercial Officer.
Onboard the flight was a group of avid aviation photographers who have all shot images of Bonza’s fleet at Melbourne Airport in recent weeks since the airline started operations from what is its second base. So far, to launch from Melbourne Airport are direct and low-cost services to Rockhampton, Port Macquarie, Sunshine Coast, Tamworth and Toowoomba Wellcamp.
Later this week, Bonza will launch services between the Victorian capital and Bundaberg and Gladstone, with a new route to Mackay getting wheels up on 23 May. Bonza also operates a direct flight between Avalon, Mildura, and the Sunshine Coast.
Trevor Wilcock, CEO of Mildura Airport, welcomed guests at the arrival.
“The Mildura community is very excited to welcome Bonza to the vital link between our region and the State Capital. Eight out of 10 travellers through our airport currently connect to Melbourne, and this new link further enhances the essential ties between the two cities. It is great news for our region!”
Among those celebrating today’s inaugural service is Jim Parashos, Melbourne Airport’s Chief of Aviation.
“Bonza is doing things differently, and Melbourne Airport is proud to be the only capital city on the airline’s launch network,” he said.
“The extra capacity and competition Bonza brings to this route with its Boeing 737 MAX aircraft will help more tourists, families, farm workers and businesses to connect, which is great for Melbourne, Mildura and the broader state economy.”
Travellers are encouraged to download the Fly Bonza app, the only place to book directly.
