Bonza launched its third route from its Sunshine Coast hub to Avalon on Tuesday, continuing the phased development of its early network.
Bonza arrived for the first time at Melbourne Avalon Airport in Victoria, continuing to establish its own story as an independent, low-cost airline.
On 21 February, the country’s newest airline flew from the Sunshine Coast to Melbourne’s Avalon Airport before returning at 3 pm the same day.
The historic flight was the airline’s first commercial flight to a Victorian city. The third route was inaugurated as the low-cost carrier continues to connect more Australians than ever before.
With its Melbourne hub set to launch later this week, Bonza will offer 12 new routes to the existing 15 available via the Fly Bonza app.
“Today is a big day because this is the first time we get wheels up into Victoria. CEO, Bonza, Tim Jordan, said.
“People from Southeast Queensland can now fly straight to Avalon for a wide range of holiday options in Melbourne, Geelong, the Surf Coast, and along the Great Ocean Road.”
“In the same way, Victorians can now fly straight from Avalon to the Sunshine Coast to see family and take a break.”
Starting at $79, one-way tickets for flights between the Sunshine Coast and Avalon have been on sale for the last month. Until late October 2023, passengers may book direct flights on the Fly Bonza app or via a licenced travel agency to travel between the Sunshine Coast and Avalon three times weekly.
Avalon Airport CEO Tony Brun said linking the Sunshine Coast, and Avalon will help visitors from Melbourne, Geelong, and neighbouring areas.
“We are happy to partner with Bonza and host the first flights into Victoria.”
The route between the Sunshine Coast and Melbourne (Avalon) is quite popular and beneficial to Victoria.
Its debut today gives travellers more options, competition, and opportunities to see more of this wonderful country.
“We are happy to make flying simpler and more accessible to keen travellers!” Brun stated.
“The Sunshine Coast is a popular vacation destination for Victorians, and being able to fly straight out of Avalon will make travel so much easier for people living in Greater Melbourne,” said Andrew Brodie, CEO of Sunshine Coast Airport.
“Similarly, people with friends or relatives in Victoria now have more travel options since Bonza will operate three flights to Avalon weekly.”
This new route is also great news for Sunshine Coast residents who like sporting events or want to explore Melbourne’s amazing gourmet culture.”
Jordan praised both airports for their assistance in reaching this milestone.
“Today results from a strong partnership between Sunshine Coast Airport, Avalon Airport, and its owners Linfox. “We want to thank their teams in particular for working so hard to make today a reality,” he added.
Travellers are encouraged to download the Fly Bonza app, the only site where they can book directly.
