On one of the warmest evenings of the year over 200 local residents came together to support Back Heathrow – the community organisation that campaigns for a new runway.
Parmjit Dhanda, Executive Director of Back Heathrow welcomed guests at the Indian Gymkhana Club in Hounslow on the 5th September, saying that the event was the largest gathering of supporters since Covid struck in 2020. With guests from the Chambers of Commerce, trade unions, local councillors and residents from areas around Heathrow; the strength and depth of its 100,000 supporters was clear to see.
Marking Back Heathrow’s ten-year anniversary, Mr Dhanda said: “Our 100,000 supporters can be proud of the journey we’ve been on. They shifted David Cameron’s position of ‘No ifs no buts, no third runway’ to one of acceptance of the economic reality, culminating in an overwhelming vote of MPs for expansion.
Dhanda added: “Back Heathrow helped shift the dial, there is now a growing understanding that we can have more flights and less carbon thanks to new aircraft technology and fuels. Sustainable aviation is real, and I am confident that we will see Heathrow leading the way.”
