TDM: With depleting natural resources, the world over, sustainability is the only way forward. Can you kindly share the different green initiatives being taken up by your resort?
PP: Certainly. At Dusit Thani Hua Hin, we recognise the importance of sustainability in preserving our environment for future generations. We are committed to implementing various green initiatives to minimise our ecological footprint and promote responsible tourism. Here are some of the key initiatives we have undertaken:
Energy Conservation: We have implemented energy-saving measures throughout our resort, including the use of energy-efficient lighting, appliances, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Additionally, we encourage guests to participate in our towel and linen reuse programs to reduce water and energy consumption. While as a part of Waste Management, we have established comprehensive waste management practices. Organic waste from our restaurants is composted, and we strive to minimise single-use plastics by offering sustainable alternatives.
We prioritise sourcing local and sustainable ingredients for our restaurants, supporting local farmers and producers while reducing the carbon footprint associated with food transportation. Our commitment to sustainable sourcing extends to our procurement practices for amenities and materials used throughout the resort. We also actively engage with the local community through partnerships and initiatives aimed at promoting environmental conservation and social responsibility. From beach clean-up campaigns using ghost nets, and releasing crabs into the sea to tree-planting initiatives, we are committed to making a positive impact beyond the boundaries of our resort.
By implementing these green initiatives, we strive to lead by example and contribute to the collective effort towards a more sustainable future. At Dusit Thani Hua Hin, sustainability isn’t just a choice—it’s a way of life that guides everything we do
TDM: What kind of initiatives do you take to keep the beach clean and welcoming?
PP: We prioritise the preservation of our beach through various activities and implementations. We organise a daily clean-up event involving staff, guests, and the local community to remove litter and debris from the beach. Additionally, we offer sustainable beach activities such as yoga sessions and nature immersion experiences, connecting guests with the beach in an environmentally conscious manner.
Through these efforts, we are committed to maintaining the pristine beauty of our beach and ensuring it remains a welcoming environment for all.
TDM: What different culinary offerings does the resort have to cater to all kinds of palates?
PP: Our chefs proudly present a diverse array of culinary experiences, each crafted to delight every palate. From the rich and flavorful Royal Thai cuisine to the tantalising tastes of international, South American, and Italian fare, our menus are thoughtfully curated using locally sourced ingredients. Guests can savour authentic Thai dishes prepared with precision at Ban Benjarong, or explore global flavours with international favourites at The Restaurant. Sustainability is at the heart of our dining, ensuring each meal is as environmentally responsible as it is delicious.
Whether enjoying the vibrant spices of Thailand, the bold South American flavors at Nómada Fire Grill Beach Club, where our Peruvian chef cooks over an open flame in a rainforest-inspired, open-air setting that captures the vibrant beach club ambiance, or indulging in comforting Italian classics at San Marco, guests at Dusit Thani Hua Hin embark on a gastronomic journey that celebrates the richness of local ingredients and the artistry of our chefs.
With every bite, we support local communities, and promote a sustainable future.
TDM: What are the main challenges that hospitality is facing in your region and what is the way forward?
PP: In our region, the hospitality industry faces a multitude of challenges, including evolving consumer preferences, shifting market dynamics, and unpredictable economic conditions. One significant challenge is adapting to the rapid advancements in technology and the increasing demand for personalised experiences. Additionally, improving infrastructure, such as enhancing connectivity through Hua Hin Airport, is essential for accommodating the rising number of international travellers.
The way forward involves embracing innovation, flexibility, and resilience. Embracing diversity, investing in talent development, and maintaining a relentless focus on customer satisfaction will be key in shaping the future of hospitality.
Infrastructure and accessibility to the Hua Hin – Cha Am region remain a key area of focus. Despite its appeal as a serene beach destination, there is a need for enhanced transportation options to accommodate the wider market of international travellers, whether they are leisure tourists or here for meetings and seminars. Improving connectivity by operating direct international flights to Hua Hin Airport, along with improved public transport and seamless access, will be crucial in positioning Hua Hin – Cha Am as a preferred destination for a diverse range of visitors.
TDM: Can you share with us what is the best part about being a hotelier and one memory of your tenure as GM at the Dusit Thani Hua Hin Resort that stands apart?
PP: The best part about being a hotelier is the opportunity to create meaningful experiences for our guests. Every day brings new challenges and the chance to make someone’s stay truly special, whether it’s through a warm welcome, a thoughtful gesture, or ensuring every detail is just right.
One memory that stands out during my tenure as General Manager at Dusit Thani Hua Hin is leading our team in welcoming and hosting several prestigious national events. These occasions have not only crafted the reputation of our hotel but have also been a testament to the dedication, sweat, and smiles of our entire team.
What’s even more special is witnessing the personal connections we’ve built over the years. I’ve had the joy of seeing young children who once stayed with us grow into teenagers and return with their parents, sharing fond memories of their holidays. It’s these moments—when guests choose to relive their cherished memories with us—that truly encapsulate what hospitality is all about. Our success is built on the strength of our teamwork, creating a place where memories are made, relationships are nurtured, and guests and staff feel a deep sense of belonging.
Additionally, I take pride in spearheading our commitment to sustainability, which aligns with Dusit’s 4 Pillars: personalized service, well-being, locality, and sustainability. At Dusit Thani Hua Hin, we exemplify these principles by transforming empty land into a non-pesticide rice farm and organic vegetable garden, and introducing Happy Hen for egg collection. Our restaurants also emphasize local Petchburi flavours and ingredients, celebrating the unique tastes of this UNESCO town. These initiatives not only enhance our guests’ experience but also contribute positively to our community and environment.
