As the euphoria of Christmas has subsided, and Blue Monday is just around the corner, you may be considering booking a holiday to give yourself something to look forward to.
However, whether it’s location, accommodation or transport, it can be difficult to know where to start in planning a trip. Luckily, the travel experts at Bounce have compiled their top tips to help you pick the best holiday to beat those January blues:
Consider what you want from your holiday
Are you craving time away from the stress of work, or education? Consider what relaxes you. This could be a yoga retreat, an all-inclusive beach break, or a spa getaway. Is life at home feeling stagnant? Why not choose a holiday that will fuel your adrenaline, providing opportunities to try new things such as jet-skiing? Or, if you fancy learning something new, consider destinations that offer you the chance to learn about new cultures or visit historical landmarks.
Source holiday inspiration from social media
Social media search engines, such as TikTok, are an ideal free tool to source your holiday inspiration. For example, Dubai has proved a hugely popular destination this year, with 81.8 billion TikTok users tagging the destination as a holiday hotspot. You could even set up polls or question tabs across your social media channels asking others for recommendations.
Air, sea, rail, or road?
It may seem like a small portion of your trip, but transportation could be the difference between a peaceful and nightmarish start to your holiday. If you don’t enjoy flying, there are plenty of holiday destinations that can be travelled to by train from the UK such as France, Spain, and the Netherlands. Alternatively, if you prefer arriving at your destination by boat, you could consider a cruise such as one in the Mediterranean.
Determine your ideal dates and holiday length
Figuring out exactly how long your perfect holiday will be can help whittle down your choices as some accommodation types will only allow shorter or longer stays. For some, a 48-hour quick fix will be all they need, but if you are fancying a 2-week trip, make sure the destination has enough on offer to keep you occupied for the duration. Many holiday-goers choose to split their trips across two or more accommodations, giving them a better chance to explore different areas.
The time of year you choose to go on holiday can also be a vital part of the decision-making process. Seasonality is typically a big factor to consider when booking a holiday. Although prices may be much lower off-season, your choice of hotels and activities once there may be limited.
Keep in mind your budget
It can be easy to spot a great deal on the price of flights and think you’ve got yourself a bargain, but have you considered the cost you can expect to spend once you’re there? For example, off-season flights to Paris can be reasonably priced, however, accommodation costs, food and exploring can rack that price up quickly compared to other destinations.
