Ripley’s Believe It or Not, the global chain of attractions, has purchased an original Star Wars lightsaber at auction for US$450,000.
The famous weapon was used by Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill, in the first two Star Wars movies – A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. The technology is not exactly space-aged however; it was made from an old Graflex flashgun camera dating back to the 1930s.
Edward Meyer, vice president of archives & exhibits for Ripley’s Believe It or Not, acquired the piece at the “Profiles in History Hollywood Auction” on 28 June 2017.
The company also successfully bid for the original Superman costume worn by actor George Reeves in the 1950s TV series.
