Arundel Castle’s Medieval Festival weekend is returning this July
Arundel Castle announced that its Medieval Festival Weekend is returning this summer on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th July 2023. The Festival will transport visitors back to the year 1474, where the Earl of Arundel is marking the birth of his first grandson with a knight’s foot tournament and an archery contest between three nations – England, France, and Poland.
Held on the lower lawns of Arundel Castle, the two-day event will feature a tented encampment where visitors can explore and witness demonstrations of historical crafts such as forging, cooking, and leatherwork. There will also be combat demonstrations, falconry demonstrations, and of course, the incredible Knights Tournament – a spectacle not to be missed!
For those looking for a more hands-on experience, there will be plenty of activities to partake in, including axe throwing, crossbows and archery. Younger guests can also get involved in Arundel Castle’s renowned ‘kids battles’ and enjoy medieval music from performers Myal and Peg, and a storytelling session.
With an abundance of activities to enjoy at the Medieval Festival Weekend, when it’s time to take a break, visitors can head to the Knights’ Table – offering delicious food with a medieval twist and a range of drinks close to the encampment. Alternatively, visitors can dine at the Castle’s café, restaurant or tea terrace, or bring their own picnic to enjoy in the Castle grounds.
Andrew Lewis, Castle Manager, expressed his excitement for the event, stating: “We’re thrilled to host the Medieval Festival. It’s a unique opportunity for visitors of all ages to come together and experience the sights, sounds, and excitement of medieval times with the unique and historical backdrop of Arundel Castle.”
