Frances McNaughton is one of the UK’s most talented sugar crafters and her sugar-sweet props have been used in the box-office hit films Notting Hill, Harry Potter, Chocolat, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Gulliver’s Travels.
Frances is a favourite on Saga cruise ships and she will be back by passengers’ demand on board Saga Sapphire’s Canary Island Medley cruise in December.
She will give demonstrations on modelling with sugar paste, marzipan and chocolate. She said: “Passengers find it is a relaxing, hands-on environment and a place to meet new friends as well as making sugarcraft models including birds, animals, shoes and bags.”
“On my last 14-night cruise the mini workshops were so popular I ended up doing 16 classes to accommodate everyone. I loved it.”
Frances will be joined by textile crafters who will be showing passengers how to make beautiful handmade items which can be taken home as gifts.
Mandy Shaw, who describes herself as a ‘maker of all things lovely’ has contributed to many of TV presenter Kirstie Allsopp’s shows; in front of the camera, behind the scenes and in her books.
On Saga Sapphire, Mandy will share her passion for textile-based crafts and haberdashery which often feature in magazine articles.
Kate Wollaston is a mixed media textile artist who uses vintage and everyday textiles to create new works. Her fascination with remnants of the past helps her to produce unique pieces and she will offer creative inspiration to help passengers make individual pieces of mixed media embroidery.
As well as ‘getting crafty’ on this all-inclusive cruise, passengers can enjoy the winter sun with calls to Funchal, Madeira; Santa Cruz, La Palma; Santa Cruz, Tenerife; Las Palmas, Gran Canaria; Arrecife, Lanzarote and La Coruña, Spain.
