Aosta Valley’s Pila unveils “Pila – Couis” Gondola Lift
The ski lift project is set to enhance access to the mountain resort radically – for both skiers and non-skiers – and improve access to one of the most iconic panoramic points of the Aosta Valley: Cima Couis 1 at 2,730 meters above sea level. From here, it is possible to admire the peaks of some of the most famous mountains in the world such as Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn, the Grivola and the Gran Paradiso amongst others.
A system integrated into the environment, avant-garde architecture and engineering, the project envisages a detachable 10-seater gondola lift in two sections which, passing through 2 intermediate stations, will connect the arrival area of the existing Aosta-Pila gondola lift with the Platta de Grevon area (i.e. Cima Couis 1), on the watershed between the Conca di Pila and the Cogne valley. The departure station in Pila – stretcher – at an altitude of 1,800 metres, is located behind the arrival station of the Aosta-Pila cable car and will feature an innovative service centre.
The upstream arrival station on Cima Couis – driving force – is characterized by a particular star design and will feature a panoramic bar-restaurant. The departure station of the Pila-Couis will merge with the arrival station of the Aosta-Pila, completely redeveloping one of the focal points of the resort.
With a capacity of 2,400 people per hour at a speed of 6 meters per second, it will be possible to cover the total length of 3.8 kilometres and a vertical drop of 923 meters in 13 minutes. Currently, to reach Cima Couis da Pila with skis on, it requires 3 lifts and takes 60 minutes approximately.
Further upgrades will make it possible to reach one of the most iconic panoramic points of the Aosta Valley, at 2,730 metres, starting directly from the centre of Aosta and taking only 32 minutes for a height difference of 2,200 thousand metres.
