Fans of the Alamo Drafthouse Denver will be excited to hear the company is opening a second location, this one on the north side of town, with its Sloans Lake theater coming to town on May 15. Like the current Littleton location, the Sloans Lake venue will feature a cinema-eatery setting for movie goers of all styles.
Located on West Colfax near the Highland neighborhood at 4255 W. Colfax Ave., the theater is just blocks from Sloan’s Lake Park and the Perry Station light rail. It features eight screens that can seat some 778 people, and all movies are screened in Sony 4K Digital with three screens dedicated specifically to RealD 3D.
“I’m so proud and humbled to be a part of this amazing community here at Sloans Lake,” says Vice President of Operations for Alamo Drafthouse Denver, Walter Chaw. “As a Colorado native, I’m thrilled to be involved in the revitalization of one of the most historic neighborhoods in the United States. I look forward to continuing to expand the arts conversation here, in my home town, with a forward-thinking, progressive company like the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema.”
What started as a mom and pop company, with a single-screen repertory theater in Austin in 1997, has grown into a 26-location chain that has been named “the best theater in America” by Entertainment Weekly and “the best theater in the world” by Wired. Over the last 20 years, the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema has built this reputation by offering film buffs an oasis that combines food and drink service with the movie-going experience, and also introducing unique programming and high-profile, star studded special events.
True to form, Alamo Drafthouse’s ironclad “no-talking, no-texting” policy will be in full effect at the Sloans Lake location which will also offer the unique and diverse programming, like multi-course film feasts, live performances and in-person appearances by filmmaking talent, the company is known for. The new location features a full menu curated by Denver executive market chef Seth Rexroad of the Littleton location. It also features a full bar service called BarFly themed around the beat generation’s poets and Denver’s art scene. There will be 32 local beers on tap and a curated menu of hand-crafted cocktails.
The theater opens May 15 with Guardians of the Galaxy. Other May screenings will include Alien: Covenant, Baywatch and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Throughout the summer you can expect highly anticipated films like Wonder Woman, Cars 3, Spider-Man: Homecoming and War for the Planet of the Apes.
