The teams of AIME, MCB, PJSE and Marvel Stadium collaborated tirelessly to put on a 30th-anniversary extravaganza at Marvel Stadium on Monday evening to commemorate AIME’s 30th anniversary.
On Monday night, a huge welcome ceremony and celebration welcomed thousands of international and local buyers and exhibitors to the 2023 Asia Pacific Incentives and Meetings & Event at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium.
The business and events industries took a minute to recognise the team’s efforts in putting on such a spectacular celebration.
To commemorate AIME’s 30th anniversary, the Marvel Stadium oval, which has previously held some of the world’s greatest athletic and music events, was turned into a state-of-the-art celebration stage.
The 30th-anniversary theme was echoed in a meal designed by Victorian producers Delaware North, which included a variety of Victorian-sourced delicacies.
The celebration’s performances paid tribute to AIME’s 30-year history.
CEO of the Melbourne Convention Bureau Julia Swanson had previously told the delegates that Melbourne’s long history of hosting AIME was proof of the event’s relevance and helped establish Melbourne as a worldwide leader in the business events sector.
In a press conference held Monday morning, Steve Dimopoulos, Victoria’s Minister for Tourism, Sport, and Major Events, officially began the AIME programme and welcomed business event experts from more than 25 countries to Melbourne.
The annual AIME convention is the Asia-Pacific region’s most important business events industry trade show.
The event kicked off with a bang yesterday with a rousing opening keynote from Professor Ben Harper on the future of events, a moving evocation of resilience and perseverance from Jelena Dokic (who delivered an inspiring account of survival, both on and off the tennis court), and entertainment from SongDivision.
A lot of the day’s energy came from catching up with familiar faces in the business world during the breaks.
AIME celebrated 30 years with a 3-day event at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from 13-15 February 2023.
Over 2000 buyers, suppliers, and event planners have converged for three days of business, networking, and education that will generate revenue for Victoria and other regional destinations.
AIME has brought the business events community together for three decades to network, learn, and develop business opportunities.
Research from the 2022 event indicated that $120 million worth of business events were conducted as a consequence of AIME.
Melbourne has a solid track record in obtaining and executing world-class corporate events, backed by outstanding event infrastructure, superb accommodation, accessible public transit and engaging city experiences.
The Melbourne Conventions Bureau has a solid pipeline of business events for Melbourne, with 141 international and national business events booked from now until 2028, filling more than 450,000 room nights – enough to fill the city 19 times over and contributing more than $895 million to state of Victoria’s economy.
The Rotary International Convention, the International Conference on Software Engineering, and SpineWeek are among the 23 events slated for May 2023 around the city, with over 17,500 participants expected across these three events alone.
Speaking at LUME, Australia’s first digital art museum, Tourism Minister Steve Dimopoulos said AIME provided Victoria “a significant chance to capture the advantages that corporate events can bring for the economy today and into the future”.
“International business events like AIME attract thousands of visitors to Melbourne, boosting local hotels, restaurants, and shops while demonstrating our city’s strength as a world-class events destination,” he added.
