The Wesley hotel group awarded ECOSmart Gold Accreditation
London hotel group, The Wesley, has recently achieved ECOSmart gold Accreditation following an in-depth examination process that was conducted by Greengage, an organisation that supports hospitality businesses on their individual sustainability journeys.
James Barr, general manager at The Wesley said: “Green isn’t just a buzzword for us, it’s a way of life. Both The Wesley Camden and Euston hotels maintain a steadfast commitment to sustainable operations and social responsibility. Our innovative eco-friendly programs and initiatives are designed to protect our surroundings, minimise our carbon footprint and promote green tourism and this accolade is just another testament to our hard work and dedication to follow through on those commitments.”
The accreditation process involved a survey that closely examined five key areas, including Energy & Water Conservation, Waste Management & Recycling, Rooms & Facilities, Food & Beverage, and Corporate & Social Responsibility. Each area is linked to specific UN Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring a comprehensive approach to sustainability.
ECOsmart by Greengage is the leading certification system for hotels, meeting venues, short stay apartments and pubs with meeting rooms. It is increasingly recognised as the credible and affordable marque that organisations can display to demonstrate their commitment to environmental sustainability and achievement of recognised standards.
The Wesley hotel has also set up with EVENTsmart,Greengage’s carbon calculator, which lets venues track the carbon footprint of all meetings and events happening on their premises. The hotel will now be able to offer clients the ability to evaluate the carbon emissions for all aspects of their meetings and events, including travel, accommodation, meeting spaces, catering, electricity, gas, water, event materials, and waste.
The London hotel group currently operates The Wesley Euston, a 100-room hotel complete with restaurant/ kitchen and bar, meeting rooms and spaces, as well as a new gym and The Wesley Camden, a 38-room boutique hotel within the Camden Methodist Church building which opened in December 2022 following a £9 million conversion.
