Qantas announces new distribution model
Australia’s national carrier continues to invest in distribution capabilities
Qantas announced a new model for travel agents to access Qantas fares today, 27th November.
This is part of the airline’s ongoing investment into new distribution capabilities to better serve the evolving needs of agents and customers.
Slated for launch in mid-2025, the new model reflects a global drive towards adoption of NDC technology, which has significant benefits for travel agents and their customers.
What makes this new system different?
From 1 July 2025, agents will be able to access Qantas content a number of ways, with surcharge free options as well as varying ticket surcharges, including:
- Traditional indirect booking systems (also known as EDIFACT)
- Standard NDC
- Premium NDC
Qantas worked closely with its partners on its distribution transformation to ensure the new model is designed to set agents up for success into the future. This includes key GDS and other Certified Technology Partners.
According to Qantas Asia executive vice-president Nick McGlynn: “NDC will bring massive benefits to Qantas customers here in Asia with better pricing, more fare options and a personalised experience. For agents, NDC unlocks new revenue opportunities through dynamic commission offers as well as the tools to create tailored trips that go far beyond a basic fare and itinerary.”
This new model will replace the Qantas Channel agreements currently in place with Agency Partners.
