Myanmar Airways International (MAI) has been honoured with the prestigious title of Full-Service Airline of the Year – Myanmar at the TDM Travel Trade Excellence Awards 2024 – Asia.
In partnership with its sister airline Mingalar (formerly Air KBZ), MAI operates from primary hubs in Yangon and Mandalay, connecting Myanmar to 35 destinations, including Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, China, India, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Cambodia, Vietnam, South Korea, Russia, and Laos. There are also plans to increase this to 42 destinations, with additions in Doha and Dhaka.
MAI’s fleet includes Airbus A320 family aircraft, Embraer E190s, ATR72-600s, and a Boeing 737 freighter, making it well-equipped to provide reliable and expansive travel options within and beyond Myanmar.
Despite facing high operating costs and infrastructure limitations, MAI has effectively managed these challenges by investing in operational efficiency and technological advancements. By embracing cost-effective practices and building strong relationships with industry stakeholders, the airline streamlined its operations and offered smoother services to its passengers.
The airline has also embraced the post-pandemic shift in passenger preferences by enhancing health and safety protocols, offering flexible booking options, and integrating digital solutions.
Through collaborative efforts with tourism authorities, MAI is also dedicated to showcasing Myanmar’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty. The airline participates in international travel fairs, collaborates with tourism boards, and hosts familiarisation trips that invite influencers and travel professionals to experience Myanmar’s most popular tourist sites.
Additionally, the airline’s user-friendly booking system and dedicated representatives ensure a seamless travel experience from start to finish.
“Through our strategic efforts, we are not only showcasing Myanmar’s unique cultural heritage and breathtaking destinations but also fostering meaningful, long-lasting relationships with our global partners,” stated Tanes Kumar, Chief Executive Officer.
“This award is a testament to our commitment to excellence and to our goal of making Myanmar a prominent destination on the world travel map. At MAI, we’re dedicated to delivering an authentic travel experience that reflects the warmth and hospitality of Myanmar. We continually invest in promoting our rich heritage through partnerships, international travel fairs, and familiarisation tours, welcoming influencers and travel experts to explore the true essence of Myanmar. It’s through these channels that we inspire global travellers and shine a spotlight on Myanmar’s beauty and charm.”
