Eastern Airways launches flights from Aberdeen to Teesside
Eastern Airways, the UK’s regional airline, yesterday commenced Aberdeen services from Teesside Airport to re-establish what is currently the only North-East England to Scotland flights.
Initially the service will operate daily weekdays and Sunday with an increase to twice daily from 9th September, offering what will then be peak morning and evening services to ensure connectivity to the UK’s North-East Scotland energy hub.
The return of Eastern Airways to the Aberdeen service having operated the route form 2001 until 2022 adds to the airlines well established Teesside seasonal summer Jersey service and joins Eastern Airways basing of a 100-seat Embeaer 190 last month to operate the KLM Cityhopper Amsterdam service, resulting in Eastern operating up to 54 arrivals and departures weekly from Teesside Airport.
Recently re-elected Mayor of Tees Valley Ben Houchen attending today’s inaugural flight said: “We’re at the forefront of new offshore industries coming to Teesside – and we’ve had a longstanding and deeply skilled workforce grafting in the North Sea and around the world for decades now.
“It is absolutely vital offshore workers keep their link to Aberdeen to get to and from work, and I’m delighted we’ve been able to bring this back to our departure boards again with Eastern Airways.
“As things stand, we’re the only airport offering an Aberdeen link in the North-East. It shows, once again, that our airport is about more than just holiday flights – it’s helping the livelihoods of people in Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool.”
Paul Livingstone, Head of Membership for NOF, said: “The revival of daily flights between Teesside International Airport and Aberdeen provides a vital commuter route for our energy sector members, reinforcing business connections for the region’s expanding offshore energy facilities.
“This development enhances regional infrastructure, fosters collaboration, and accelerates opportunities for our members and stakeholders.”
Chris Tibbett, Aero Director at AGS Airports, said: “We are delighted to welcome back the Aberdeen to Teesside route with Eastern Airways strengthening the ties between the two regions.
“The reinstatement of the Aberdeen to Teesside route reflects our ongoing commitment to meeting the needs of our passengers and supporting the growth of regional air travel.”
Eastern Airways Commercial Director Roger Hage added: “In operating from Teesside on multiple routes every year since 2001, returning today to the Aberdeen service restores familiarity to many faces we have welcomed on-board for many years.
“We more than any operator know the value of connecting the UK’s energy capital Aberdeen to significant regions throughout the UK so re-establishing Teesside to our growing route mix with an increasing two-way demand developing given the Tees Ports investments, while also operating services such as Amsterdam on behalf of KLM and the summer seasonal Jersey flights to the Aberdeen link all help ensure the long-term future of connectivity from the wider regions of Teesside, North Yorkshire and South Tyneside to the North East of Scotland”.
The Teesside-Aberdeen service having commenced as a daily service will from September be operated up to twice daily with flights including a complimentary drink and snack alongside various baggage inclusive fare options. Multi-flight route pass fares offering discounts and free flight changes for regular travellers will also be available.
