The Yas SeaWorld® Research & Rescue Center celebrates 12 marine enthusiasts from the Sharjah Center for Learning Difficulties
In a meaningful collaboration, The Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue Center and the Sharjah Center for Learning Difficulties (SCLD) recently came together to organize a special celebration for students demonstrating exceptional behavioral and academic achievements. The event held at the Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue Center showcased the commitment of both organizations to educational efforts and inclusivity.
The highlight of the day was a one-hour tour of the Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue Center, the largest dedicated marine research, rescue, rehabilitation and return facility in the region. Students, accompanied by educators from SCLD, explored the center’s state-of-the-art laboratories, veterinary hospital, rescue pools and rescue fleet, gaining insights into marine science and conservation. Dedicated educators accompanied the students throughout the event, providing explanations and ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the marine research and rescue efforts.
Following the tour, the students enjoyed a visit to SeaWorld® Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, where they witnessed a mesmerizing dolphin presentation, and proceeded to the marine life theme park’s One Ocean Realm for a celebration of their achievements. Here, the students were presented with certificates, gifts and a group photo to commemorate the special occasion. The festivities continued with thrilling rides and a delightful lunch at Cenote Café, one of the park’s many dining venues.
Thomas Kaferle, General Manager at SeaWorld Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, said: “ The Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue Center is delighted to have collaborated with the Sharjah Center for Learning Difficulties for this special celebration of 12 students and marine enthusiasts. This collaboration is part and parcel of the center’s larger commitment to inspire the next generation of marine scientists and contribute to long-term conservation efforts in the UAE and the wider region. We look forward to opening our doors to more partnerships like this in the future, in line with our mission to raise the public’s awareness on the true wonders of marine life.”
Building on SeaWorld’s legacy of being one of the largest marine animal rescue organizations in the world, the Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue Center aims to bring their nearly 60 years of experience and knowledge in animal care, rescue, rehabilitation, education and conservation to the UAE and wider region.
The Education Team at the Center, comprised of passionate zoological education professionals from diverse backgrounds worldwide, focuses on facilitating unique learning experiences about the ocean and the environment. This includes dedicated classrooms and a 180-seat auditorium, where discussions take place to support conservation efforts among scientists, researchers, students and the public.
The educational programs are extended to schools, homeschool groups, youth camps and more, empowering the UAE community to actively participate in environmental conservation through interactive, hands-on initiatives. By intertwining education with research and rescue efforts, the aim is to secure a lasting positive impact on life in the Arabian Gulf and fostering sustainable behaviors to protect local ecosystems.
