Budget design hotel group, Motel One, is checking out of the first half of 2023 with reported sales of EUR 394 million (£337 million), while also now boasting more than 25,000 rooms across its global portfolio.
According to the brand’s latest financial report, sales in Q2 increased by 32% in 2022 and were 59% higher than the pre-Covid levels of 2019. Meanwhile, occupancy rates for the first half of 2023 rose to 69% compared to 51% in 2022 – jumping from 61% in Q1 to 77% in Q2.
With the first hotel in Dublin, Motel One opened its first hotel in Ireland. The Group also surpassed the 25,000 room milestone mark with the opening of its first hotel in Mannheim, Germany. While in the UK, Motel One enhanced its offering by concluding a further rental contract in a prime location in London, which will expand its portfolio to nine locations in the UK. Motel One currently has hotels located throughout the UK in Edinburgh, London, Manchester, Newcastle and Glasgow.
Further new openings in Würzburg and Karlsruhe, all in Germany, are due in the second half of 2023. The brand also confirmed two new locations in Düsseldorf and Milan.
The Cloud One Hotels, the chain’s new lifestyle brand, will also make its debut in Germany with locations in Hamburg and Düsseldorf in Q4 this year. This follows the successful launch of the first-ever The Cloud One Hotel in Downtown New York in December 2022. The urban jungle-inspired hotel boasts a sixth-floor wine bar, lounge and terrace, and unobstructed city skyline views.
Daniel Müller, Co-CEO of Motel One Group, said: “Motel One has had a strong first half of 2023, and this looks set to continue with a healthy number of advanced bookings being made for the autumn and winter months. As we move into Q3 and Q4, we’re looking at underlining the group’s international growth strategy, with further openings and new locations secured in Germany, Italy and the UK.”
“The brand will also continue to build upon its sustainability credentials with all hotels to be Green Key certified by the end of the year. With the certifications, Motel One is underlining its commitment to sustainable development while highlighting that the measures we currently have in place have been effective.”
In June, Green Key and Motel One signed a cooperation agreement to certify all Motel One Group hotels. Green Key-certified hotels commit to high environmental and socio-economic standards maintained through rigorous verifications and auditing process. The first Motel One hotels in Germany have already received the Green Key certificate, with all sites to be certified by the end of 2023.
