A record number of Brits will staycation this Easter amid a forecast of drier weather, with an estimated 16million of us preparing to take a UK break according to Sykes Holiday Cottages. A new poll of 2,000 UK adults shows that 31% of Brits have a staycation lined up for the long weekend, versus a quarter (25%) in Easter 2022.
Bookings to the rental agency’s UK holiday lets are up 16% for the bank holiday weekend compared to 2022, and 95% versus 2019.
The company further revealed that Cumbria & the Lake District, North Wales, and Cornwall top the list of destinations Brits are heading to this Easter. The North York Moors & Coast and Devon round out the top five most-booked locations for the Easter holidays, with families prioritising rural and coastal regions to spend quality time together.
With the rising cost of living continuing to tighten purse strings, the popularity of staycations shows no sign of slowing down, with travellers opting for locations closer to home and 54% revealing they prefer their UK holidays to be in self-catering accommodation because it is cheaper.
Graham Donoghue, CEO at Sykes Holiday Cottages, said: “Perhaps driven by the hope of drier weather than we’ve been seeing in the UK recently, more Brits than ever have booked staycations for the upcoming Easter weekend and school holidays.
“Hotspot locations like Cumbria & the Lake District, North Wales, and Cornwall, continue to see considerable demand, with Brits lacing up their walking boots to explore our country’s stunning landscapes and coasts. “As the cost-of-living crisis continues to squeeze budgets across the country, staycations can be a great way to holiday on a budget, with self-catering accommodation helping to keep costs down even more.”
