The meeting was well attended. A quorum was established with more than 50% of its members in attendance; many also brought guests along.
The event was expertly choreographed by President James Thurlby who presented his President’s report and his detailed roadmap for the coming year. With the able assistance of club Treasurer John Neutze, they presented the financials of the club which showed the club was in good standing. John later presented the budget for the club and the fee structure. Both the President and Treasurer’s report were approved by the AGM attendees.
Next came the election of Board members. As all board members were standing again for their second year of office, with one exception. Being a non-election year all existing board members have happily agreed to complete their 2-year term 2022-2024.
The exception of the election was to formally ask for the AGM’s approval of President James invitation for Andrew J. Wood to rejoin the Skal Bangkok board, which was unanimously given.
The existing board members were therefore joined by Andrew, who was appointed as the new Vice President 2. Wood, a 2-time past club president, brings with him 32 years of Skal experience and advice to the existing board members.
A prominent member of the club, Andrew is a well-respected member of the Bangkok business community and has been a Skal International member for many years. His expertise in the hospitality and tourism industry will be a valuable addition to the committee.
“I am delighted to welcome Andrew back to the committee.”
President James Thurlby added, “Andrew has been an active member of the club for many years and his knowledge and experience in the hospitality and tourism industry will be invaluable in helping us to continue to promote global tourism and friendship.”
The newly formed executive committee is comprised of:
- President: James Thurlby
- Vice President 1: Marvin Bemand
- Vice President 2: Andrew J Wood
- Secretary: Michael Bamberg
- Treasurer: John Neutze
- Events: Pichai Visutriratana

- Public Relations: Kanokros Sakdanares

The Skal Bangkok Executive Committee is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction of the club, as well as managing its day-to-day operations. The Bangkok Club of Skal International was established in 1956 and has grown to become one of the most active and influential clubs in the region.
Commenting on his appointment, Andrew J. Wood said, “I am honored to have been appointed as the new Vice President 2 of Skal Bangkok. I look forward to working closely with the other board members to strengthen the club and to support President James and our members in these challenging times.”
President James gave a big shout-out to all the Club’s sponsors; CoffeeWORKS, Move Ahead Media, Paulaner and Serenity Wines, whose support James said is greatly appreciated and never taken for granted.
The meeting also provided networking opportunities prior and during the luncheon for members to discuss various issues affecting the tourism industry in Thailand today and beyond. The pandemic’s impact on the industry was a key topic, and members exchanged ideas on how best to support each other during these difficult times.
The Skal Bangkok AGM was followed by a delicious lunch, where members and guests had the opportunity to catch up.
The event was well received by all and many expressed their appreciation for the club’s efforts to bring the tourism industry together.
Skal Bangkok President, James Thurlby said, “I am thrilled with the turnout at this year’s AGM.
