Thai Airways joined the number of airlines selling flight to nowhere, but Thailand’s official carrier sets itself apart from the pack by offering a ‘magical flying experience’.
The three-hour flight targeted those who seek spirituality, featuring a celebrity fortune teller. Passengers will fly above 99 sacred sites on 31 of Thailand’s 77 provinces before returning to Bangkok.
Economy class tickets start from THB 5,999 (USD 193) and premium class tickets are THB 9,999 (USD321). Flights are set to take off at the end of the month.
Flights to nowhere are nothing new, airlines in Hong Kong, Australia, and Japan offered flights to passengers who simply missed flying. Australia’s seven-hour flight over the country’s most iconic landmark had sold in less than 10 minutes. Like many countries, Thailand’s travel industry was badly hit by the coronavirus pandemic.
Thai Airways was among travel companies that suffered great loss due to the health crisis. Earlier this year, the national airline was seeking a THB 58.1 billion (USD 1.81 billion) loan from the government to help it through the coronavirus crisis. Thai officials told the airline to come up with a restructuring plan instead to avoid bankruptcy.
