Cruise and Maritime Voyages (CMV) Britain’s leading independent cruise line, will be celebrating next month, not just the naming of their latest ship Columbus, but also the 50th Anniversary of The Beatles record Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
CMV’s ship Magellan will be in The Beatles hometown of Liverpool on 6 June joining in the many events staged by the city. For ‘Cruise Liverpool’, the company that has helped revitalise the port, it is their 10th Anniversary, so more reason to celebrate.
CMV were the first cruise line to use the new Liverpool Cruise Terminal as a turnaround port on the 29th May 2012 when the Countess of Derby named the ship. CMV are now a regular visitor to the port bringing business opportunities to the city on each departure and arrival.
Passengers lucky enough to be on board Magellan will set sail from Liverpool with magical memories to last a lifetime. Cruise Liverpool have organised an exclusive quayside concert to compliment CMVs special on board cabaret show with live music on the theme ‘Summer of Love’ named after the famous hippie concert held in June in San Francisco 50 years ago.
The Sergeant Pepper LP was significant influence on the music scene at the time. After the evening show on board, the ship will sail to the Norwegian Fjords on a nine night cruise, where visits include Eidfjord, Flåm, Bergen, the Orkney Islands and Dublin.
The original Sergeant Pepper record was released 1st June 1967. Co-incidently, a new stereo re-mix produced by Giles Martin (son of the well known Beatles orchestrator George Martin) together with Sound engineer Sam Odell has just been released.
Original recording tapes, which were found in pristine condition, have been used for the re-mix. Many people, hearing the remix on You Tube and other channels, rate it highly. The original recording was The Beatles 8th LP, the record cover remains a much sort after, iconic work of art.
On board CMV’s ship’s the music for the shows are usually played live using talented musicians for around the world. Beatles songs are always popular on board. On CMV calls into Hamburg retracing the steps of the Fab Four in their early days is a must do.
