Tokyo has created a new tourist logo and slogan as it prepares for a sharp increase in international visitors arrivals.
Revealed on Monday by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the new slogan, “Tokyo Tokyo Old Meets New” aims to reflect the range of attractions visitors can experience in the Japanese capital, from historic temples to modern landmarks. This is also reflected in the logo, which features “old and new” fonts.
“The brushstroke of Tokyo and Gothic block typeface of Tokyo represent the originality of the city, where traditions dating back to the Edo period (1603-1867) coexist alongside the cutting-edge culture of today,” the government said.
The logo also features a traditional red stamp, which depicts one of Tokyo’s newest sightseeing landmarks, the Shibuya zebra crossing.
Tokyo is expecting to see a significant rise in visitor numbers in the coming years, as it prepares to host the 2020 Olympics.
