Deutsche Hospitality, the European hotel group that operates the Steigenberger brand, has announced plans to make its debut in Thailand.
The company has penned a management agreement for a new luxury hotel on the banks of the Chao Praya River in Bangkok. Scheduled to open in 2019, the Steigenberger Hotel Riverside will offer 259 rooms and suites and 900m² of conference and banqueting space.
For the leisure market, there will be a large 1,200m² spa and wellness area, including an indoor and an outdoor pool, plus a restaurant, roof terrace and VIP lounge. The hotel will also have its own jetty, allowing guests to take riverboat tours.
“The Steigenberger Hotel Riverside Bangkok is our gateway to the market in Thailand and allows us to establish a brand presence in a city of superlatives,” said Deutsche Hospitality’s CEO, Puneet Chhatwal. “Achieving such a step is a source of great pride to us, and this also strengthens the presence of Deutsche Hospitality in our target growth market of Asia.”
The company’s arrival in Thailand comes just two months after Deutsche Hospitality unveiled details of its first ever hotel in India. The Zephyr – MBD Steigenberger Hotel & Apartments is a luxury hotel which is scheduled to open in Bengaluru in 2020.
Deutsche Hospitality currently has more than 125 hotels either operating or under development worldwide, but mainly in central Europe. More than 50 of these are Steigenberger Hotels, and the company launched its first ever Jaz Hotel in Amsterdam in 2015.
