Asia’s three most populous countries also now have the region’s largest hotel development pipelines.
According to the latest monthly report from STR, there are now a combined total of 792 hotel projects comprising 185,730 rooms under construction in China, India and Indonesia.
This represents approximately 70% of the Asia Pacific total pipeline, which consists of 1,147 projects with 264,519 rooms.
China (512 projects with 137,641 rooms) has by far the largest pipeline of any Asian country, followed at a distance by Indonesia (135 projects with 25,775 rooms) and India (145 projects with 22,314 rooms). Shanghai, Chengdu, Bali and Jakarta are the individual markets with the largest pipelines.
Including projects not yet under construction, Asia Pacific now has 2,572 hotels comprising 576,109 rooms in the pipeline.
