Gulf Air has announced its intent to transfer its operations to the new Prince Muhammad Bin Abdul Aziz International Airport in Al Madinah Al Munawarah.
This coincides with the start of the airport’s test run operations and formal inauguration.
“We have been operating to Al Madinah Al Munawarah since June 2010 and we are delighted to welcome this new airport – a timely addition that will enhance and facilitate passenger movement,” said Gulf Air acting chief executive officer, Maher Salman Al Musallam.
The airline operates a five weekly service linking Al Madinah Al Munawarah to Bahrain, supplementing the carrier’s multiple daily flights to and from Dammam, Jeddah and Riyadh and, most recently, the four weekly service to both Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz Regional Airport and Ta’if Regional Airport.
The new Prince Muhammad Bin Abdul Aziz International airport can receive up to 160 aircraft daily. The airport has 64 travel desks that will increase by a further 16 during peak travel periods of Ramadan and Hajj. The current annual capacity of eight million passengers will increase to 12 m when it is officially inaugurated.
